Songs Sang

IF YOU LIKE DR. SEUSS
(to the tune of If Your Happy And You Know It)

If you like Dr. Seuss, Clap your hands
If you like Dr. Seuss, Clap your hands
If you like Dr. Seuss, when the Grinch is on the loose
If you like Dr. Seuss, Clap your hands

If you like Green Eggs and Ham, Stomp your feet
If you like Green Eggs and Ham, Stomp your feet
If you like Green Eggs and Ham, Then go tell Sam I Am
If you like Green Eggs and Ham, Stomp your feet

If you like the Cat in the Hat, Shout Hooray!
If you like the Cat in the Hat, Shout Hooray!
If you like the Cat in the Hat, Though he makes the fish so mad
If you like the Cat in the Hat, Shout Hooray!

THE CAT IN THE HAT
(to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus“)

The Cat in the Hat came to our house,
to our house, to our house,
The Cat in the Hat came to our house,
That snowy day

The Cat in the Hat he made a mess,
made a mess, made a mess,
The Cat in the Hat he made a mess,
That snowy day

The Fish in the bowl he got so mad,
got so mad, got so mad,
The Fish in the bowl he got so mad,
That snowy day

We had to clean the mess before mom got home,
mom got home, mom got home,
We had to clean the mess before mom got home,
That snowy day

Treats and Coloring Sheets!

I made these “Cat in the Hat” lollipop hats out of Jolly Ranchers for the kids to take home today.
I got the idea from a video I saw on Pinterest, where Jessie Jane makes these homemade lollipops. Here’s a link to her video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKAT9HQCyeo&feature=share

They were real simple.

Directions
1. Heat your oven to 350 degrees
2. Place a Silpat (or generic version of a silicon mat) on a baking pan. [ I know Jessie Jane says you can use wax paper but this does NOT work. I tried it and the lollipops just stick to the wax paper, you are better off using a silicon mat ]
3. Place popsicle sticks (about 6) staggered on your silicon mat
4. Unwrap your Jolly Ranchers and in alternating colors place 5 Jolly Ranchers on top of the popsicle stick
5. Bake for about 4-5 minutes. It is ok if they are not completely melted because they will continue to flatten as they cool
6. Let your lollipops cool and enjoy!
7. You can wrap them in colored plastic bags or plastic wrap and tie with a ribbon

Jessie Jane also shows you how to make Carmel apple pops using the green apple Jolly Ranchers. I did not make these this time because our theme was about Dr. Seuss but maybe for a fall/apple themed storytime I’ll try whipping those up!

Once all the kids received their lollipops, I let them come over to the tables and color some Cat in the Hat coloring sheets I printed out.
